School Historical Programs:
The Center for Living History has been going to schools and teaching students about history since 1998. We are currently set up for medieval period programs, which last about 50 minutes. The program consists of a talk about medieval life, living conditions and what role children played during the time period. Period costumes and armor are displayed and demonstrated and then passed among the students for further inspection. There is no charge for these programs, but donations are accepted. We are currently raising funds to expand the program to cover the Civil War and the Sloat Landing period of 1846.
At Risk Youth Sail Training:
We have several "ships Boats" which were of the type used in the mid 1800's on naval vessels. Our boats are being prepared to take local young adults, who are having family or social difficulties, on day sails on Monterey Bay. This program has proven very succesful with other tall ships and will be the foundation program for our tall ship, the USS Cyane when complete.
